The atmosphere is the “tank” in which are discharged toxic emissions as a result from human activity in the form of gas loaded with substances, water vapors, and unsettleable sediment particles, radioactive substances. Noises and vibrations also propagate through the air constituting in many cases harmful pollutants to humans and animals.

These products add to the volcanic eruptions products and other natural activities, such as natural gas emanations from the decomposition of flora and fauna, the products of combustion emissions due to fires, etc.

Development of industry, agriculture, transport, commercial and other human activities, the exponential growth of population, development of large urban areas have increased rapidly and quantities of pollutants into the atmosphere, affecting ecosystems and human health.

Impurities in the air have various harmful consequences: damage leaves portions or all discoloration of leaves, destroying parts of plants or plant entirely destroyed. Most adverse effects exerted on the leaves directly by toxins entering through stomata, by deposit on their surface.

Cleaning the atmosphere by precipitation and sedimentation of particles can cause changes in the soil and ground water, negatively influencing plant growth.

Environmental Protection Agency Calarasi – an institution subordinated to the National Environmental Protection Agency fulfills its duties to the county level regarding implementation of policies, strategies and legislation on environmental protection, monitoring environmental quality and regulation of activities in terms of environmental protection.

Environmental Protection Agency Calarasi ensures the monitoring of air quality, noise and urban environmental radioactivity.

Air quality monitoring is done by three automatic stations located in the Calarasi-Modelu. Determined indicators are: SO2, NO, NO2, CO, NH3, O3, Pb (of PM10, total deposits and precipitation), PM10 / PM2.5, benzene, toluene, o, m, p-Xylene (BTX), Ethylbenzene. Meteorological parameters monitored are: direction and wind speed, temperature, pressure, solar radiation, relative humidity, rainfall. It shall monitor rainfall by determining the following indicators: pH, electrical conductivity, chlorides, sulfates, Pb II. Collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency Calarasi

During the collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency Calarasi we were shown how to determine the lead in particulate matter (PM10), total deposits and precipitation.

Sampling is done on quartz fiber filters and special Teflon pots are then brought to the laboratory where they are prepared for analysis.

Sample preparation is done by mineralization mixture of HNO3 and H2O2 in the oven microwave mineralization.
